The bishops appealed to Governor Ron DeSantis to not proceed with the death penalty or expand its use. They argued that state-sanctioned killing goes against the dignity and sacredness of human life. They believe that permanent incarceration without parole is a more just sentence, considering the dignity of human life and the common good. The bishops Pope Francis who described it as inadmissible and an attack on human dignity. They emphasized the need to build a just society that respects human dignity and urged people to familiarize themselves with Church teachings.
