Joe Ryan founded San Juan Huts in the 1980s, pioneering a hut-to-hut adventure system in the U.S. for skiing, mountain biking, and hiking, despite early challenges like building huts in real time during clients' trips. A turning point came in 2014 when an accident led his daughter Kelly to take over, modernizing the business while maintaining its adventurous spirit. The Montrose County Jail underwent an $8 million, multi-phase overhaul, including a complete remodel of the booking and holding areas to improve functionality and safety. The project spanned seven years of planning and one year of construction, replacing cramped and outdated facilities with modernized spaces, such as a secure booking desk enclosed in glass and repositioned away from holding cells. The final phase of renovations, addressing the video courtroom, kitchen upgrades, and HVAC systems, is slated for completion by March.
