On The Wide Angle, we explore one of the most significant art events of the year: Hiroshi Sugimoto: Form Is Emptiness, a major exhibition at the Singapore Art Museum running from 29 May to 4 October 2026 — and the first large‑scale solo exhibition of Sugimoto’s work in Southeast Asia.

This ambitious project. Spanning five decades of Sugimoto’s practice, from photography and sculpture to architecture and conceptual art, the exhibition brings together over 60 works across 11 series, including Seascapes, Theatres, Sea of Buddha, Opticks, and Portraits.

Starting in Washington, where the US House has delivered a rare bipartisan rebuke to President Trump, voting to halt the Iran war. It signals deep discomfort in Congress over the administration’s military strategy. Steve explains what this means for Trump’s foreign policy, the limits of presidential war powers, and how this reshapes America’s posture in the Middle East. 

The courts also ruled against Trump in several other key decisions prompting some to say the US checks and balances guardrails are finally kicking in. But Steve doesn't think so.
