Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Russia for the BRICS summit in Russia next month. This was revealed by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on his recent trip to St Petersburg, Russia, ahead of Xi’s trip.
Xi last visited Russia in March last year and Putin reciprocated with his own trip to China in October that year. The two leaders have since also met in Beijing in May, where Putin took the first foreign trip of his fifth presidential term, and in Kazakhstan in July.
Where does China stand in promoting “balanced, objective and rational voices” to create conditions for an early ceasefire and a political settlement of the Ukraine war, and where are China-Russia ties headed?
On this episode of Morning Shot, Dr Chong Ja Ian, Associate Professor from the Department of Political Science at the NUS Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences shares his insights.
