A historic leadership transition is set to take place in Singapore come 15th May 2024.
That’s when Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will step down after two decades as the head of Singapore’s government, while Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will take over the reins and be sworn in on the same day.
In a Facebook post, PM Lee called for Singaporeans to give DPM Wong their full support, noting that Mr Wong and the 4G team have worked hard to gain the people’s trust, notably during the pandemic. And through the Forward Singapore exercise, PM Lee said that the 4G team worked with many Singaporeans to refresh our social compact and develop the national agenda for a new generation.
On this episode of Morning Shot, Dr Gillian Koh, Senior Research Fellow from the Institute of Policy Studies dissects the significance of this leadership transition, key milestones in PM Lee's journey and what the next steps will tell us about future successions to come.
