The 21st edition of the Shangri La Dialogue in Singapore marked the first time in 18 months that the US and Chinese defence chiefs met in the flesh.
US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin and his Chinese counterpart, Admiral Dong Jun, pledged to continue military talks, which could be viewed as a positive step in the countries' relations.
But the Admiral also issued some strong statements in relation to Taiwan, while Ukraine's President accused China of helping Russia to disrupt an upcoming peace conference in Switzerland later this month.
So how much of a success was this year's dialogue? Or are we left with more questions than answers?
On this episode of Morning Shot, Dr Chong Ja Ian, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, NUS Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, shares his insights.
