Morning Shot: Iswaran 1-year jail sentence - How might Singapore’s landmark case rock public service and the PAP at the next General Election?

View descriptionShare

Singapore’s former transport minister S Iswaran has been sentenced to 12 months in jail, after he was convicted of five charges, including obtaining gifts worth over S$400,000 over seven years, from two businessmen he considered his friends, as well as for obstructing justice.

The sentencing comes more than a year after details of the probe by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau first came to light, and 10 months after Iswaran was first charged in court.

On this episode of Morning Shot, Eugene Tan, Associate Professor of Law from the Yong Pung How School of Law at Singapore Management University analyses the implications of this case on the public service, as well as the PAP.
