China’s military leadership has been under rare and intense scrutiny in recent weeks, following the removal of some of its most senior generals including figures once seen as close to Xi Jinping. While authorities have described the investigations as cases of “serious violations of discipline and law”, messaging from military-linked outlets has stressed zero tolerance for corruption and warned that no rank is beyond reach.

As these moves ripple through China’s armed forces, questions are emerging about command stability, morale, and how power is now exercised inside the People’s Liberation Army.
