Thousands took to the streets to denounce police violence in France over the weekend, less than a week after riots sparked by the killing of a teenager in a Parisian suburb broke out. 

Crystal Fleming, Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at Stony Brook University and Author of “Resurrecting Slavery: Racial Legacies and White Supremacy in France” weighs in on issues behind the legacy of colonial racism, assimilation, and challenges of French diversity.
