A rapidly growing wildfire broke out some 80 kilometres north of Los Angeles, burning about 5.3 square kilometres. The Hughes Fire in the Castaic Lake area of Los Angeles County has forced mandatory evacuations with warnings of "immediate threat to life".
Meanwhile, two major fires - the Palisades and Eaton Fires - which have been burning in the metropolitan area for more than two weeks, continue to burn currently but are getting under control. And much of Southern California remained under a red flag warning for extreme fire risk due to strong, dry winds.
