Breakfast Special: Uncharted territory: Harris could be the first Black woman & Asian American to lead a major US party ticket

View descriptionShare

After weeks of fighting for his political life - insisting he wasn’t going anywhere following a disastrous debate performance - US President Joe Biden announced his exit from the 2024 US Presidential race, and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

A full day after the surprise development just days before the big day in November - no credible challenger has emerged, and Harris is marching to the Democratic nomination as broad swaths of the party - including potential rivals, lawmakers, governors, influential labour and advocacy groups and more - line up behind her bid to take on Donald Trump.

On this episode of Breakfast Special, Bhagyashree Garekar, US Bureau Chief at The Straits Times shares her insights.
