Breakfast Bites: "You've gained weight!" - Is it ever OK to comment on someone's looks?

View descriptionShare

A woman in Singapore shared a video on Reddit about an older stranger who told her in Chinese "you’re pretty, but fat” while she was buying fishball noodles.

She just laughed it off and called it the funniest part of her day; but this has also sparked a debate on whether it is ever acceptable to comment on someone’s weight and appearance. In many parts of Asia, blunt comments are a cultural norm; but is this a good reminder that maybe some comments should be kept to yourself?
