The Big Story: Pritam Singh struck off as lawyer. What does this disbarment mean for him and WP?

View descriptionShare

Workers’ Party chief Pritam Singh has been struck off the rolls of Singapore lawyers after the Court of Three Judges ruled that his conviction for lying to a parliamentary committee warranted his removal from the profession.

Singh was convicted in February 2025 on two counts of lying under oath to the Committee of Privileges, in connection with former WP MP Raeesah Khan’s false account in Parliament in 2021.

But what does being struck off actually mean for Singh and could the ruling have wider implications for his future as WP chief and an MP?

We break down the legal and political implications with Eugene Tan, Associate Professor of Law at SMU’s Yong Pung How School of Law.
