US President Donald Trump has officially departed Beijing, closing out a tense two-day summit with Xi Jinping that both Washington and Beijing are already branding as historic. Trump is calling the visit “very successful,” while Xi is positioning it as a defining moment in US-China ties.
But beyond the grand optics and diplomatic theatre, this meeting tackled some of the world’s biggest flashpoints, from trade, energy and Iran to Taiwan and the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
