When you think of Gen Z, marine conservation probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But a growing group of young Singaporeans is heading underwater and into the waters around Singapore, to learn about the fish and marine life living alongside us.

From fishing at Bedok Jetty to documenting hundreds of fish species, these university students are turning a hobby into a way to contribute to marine conservation. So what’s drawing young Singaporeans to our waters, and could this generation be finding new ways to get involved in conservation?

On The Agenda, Hongbin Jeong speaks to Andriel Cheong, Founder of the Ichthyological Society of Singapore, about Gen Z, marine life and why Singapore’s underwater world may be closer to home than we think.
