Valentine’s Day was just last month and while everyone may be focused on love, scammers are focused on targeting the lonely and lovelorn. 

The love or romance scam is a social engineering technique designed to exploit a victim’s trust over time by developing a ‘relationship’ with them, typically through social media.

What makes these scams so successful, and how can people recognise the warning signs before it is too late?
