Weaker performance by the energy companies across this year was helped with a jump in the oil price overnight.

• Tech reversed its recent falls, staying green as the two biggest companies Wisetech and Xero finished higher. 

• A lift in the spot price of gold back over $2700 US an ounce helped local miners today.

• Perseus and Regis both rose 0.7%, and Evolution was up 0.6%.

• Also rising by more than 1% were Suncorp, Qantas and Pro Medicus.

• Downer shares fell 6% to $5.37, while Ventia lost more than 22% to finish at $3.33.
