Gender biased career decisions with Kristjane Nordmeyer

View descriptionShare

The latest gender study shows girls feel they are not as smart as boys in math by the time they are 6-years of age.  But, how does this affect the choices women make when going to college and their careers?  And, what if a boy wants to go into a stereo-typical nurturing field like nursing?  How are they treated by society?

Associate professor of sociology from Westminster College, Dr. Kristjane Nordmeyer www.westminstercollege.edu discusses these issues with host Heather Kelly.  Is it a self-choice not to go into the STEM areas of education?  Are institutions not welcoming to women or are parents not supportive when boys or girls go into a field dominated by the opposite sex?
