If Singapore’s current rate of waste generation continues to increase, our only landfill - the Semakau Landfill - is expected to run out of space by 2035. In a pursuit to become a zero waste nation, Singapore has dedicated this year as the “Year Towards Zero Waste” through lowering our consumption of materials and to encourage more to reuse and recycle. One such company pushing to lower our carbon footprint here in Singapore is Alpha Biofuels - which has led various initiatives, such as the collection of waste cooking oil, and developed programmes to educate the general public about clean energy. Dalson Chung, Director of Industry Development and Promotion with the National Environment Agency (NEA) and Allan Lim, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Biofuels weighs in.
