Domestic violence is when one person determines they should have power and control over a another person and their life. It the abuse can be economic, emotional, sexual and physical. It takes someone on average seven times trying to leave a domestic violence situation before they are successful. One in 15 kids are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, one in four women and one and seven men will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. Gateway Domestic Violence is a 24/7 shelter serving the City of Aurora and Arapahoe County. Gateway Domestic Violence serves approximately 2000 people annually.
