"Morning Mo, Lethu here. I'm in a proper pickle with my best friend, Thando. We've been inseparable since high school. Thando has just landed a dream job overseas – a massive opportunity that could change their life. The catch? They need a substantial amount of 'proof of funds' in their bank account for their visa application, and they're short by about R150,000. Thando has asked me to literally transfer R150,000 into their account for exactly 48 hours, just long enough for the embassy to see the balance and approve the visa. They swear they'll transfer it back immediately, saying their cousin will pay them back as soon as the visa is sorted. They even offered to sign an IOU. Now, I do have the money in my savings – it’s my emergency fund, built up over years. But my gut is screaming. Thando has a history of being a bit irresponsible with money, and if anything goes wrong, that's my entire safety net gone. Also, is this even legal or ethical to do for a visa? My own career is quite stable, and I don't want to risk anything. Do I risk my hard-earned savings and potentially my financial future for my best friend's dream, or do I say no and potentially ruin a lifelong friendship and crush their biggest opportunity? I feel like the worst friend in the world, but I also have to protect myself!"
