The term Middlescence was first recorded in the 1960s and now the American gerontologist and life stage expert, Barbara Waxman, is popularising it. 

For many who find themselves asking ‘IS THIS IT?’ Middlescence presents a wonderful transitional period where we can use the knowledge, experiences and wisdom we’ve gained in the first half of our life, to ride the waves of change - And embrace a big blue ocean of possibilities. 

I don’t have all the answers……..

So I am taking you on this journey with me, because I am this questioning person too, and we can learn from each other.

Sally Jones is a farmer in the Riverina region in New South Wales, where she owns and runs several irrigation and dryland properties. In mid-life she left an international professional career as a corporate advisor and scenarist to return to rural Australia just in time to experience the full force of the Millenium drought. In this episode Sally and I discuss her transition from corporate life to rural farmer and the wisdom of her 97-year-old mother who advised her to 'live within your psychological means'.

Kate and Eunice met at university as mature age students and instantly connected. They journeyed through a Master degree together and both completed PhDs in their 70s. They demonstrate that new friendships, new projects and lifelong learning are ageless.

Inspiring at any age: Kate Sharp & Eunice Gribbin

Kanwal Lashari was born and raised in Pakistan. She moved to Melbourne, Australia with her daughter and husband not long before the covid pandemic hit. Kanwal is a creative, passionate soul who shares her love of cooking, culture and stories through Free to Feed – Social Enterprise Catering Melbourne We met at Melbourne's MPavilion in late 2024 at a Free to Feed event. In this conversation we talk about her experience of covid lock downs and major health issues while finding a place to call home. About giving to others and most of all about giving to oneself. Kanwal's strength, courage, insight and compassion are inspiring.
