The era of college football that you grew up with and around is coming to an end. On Thursday the five “power conferences” voted to move forward with universities paying student athletes. In addition to this, the universities will pay out $2.8 billion in antitrust claims that date back as far as ten years. But where will this money come from? Sure, the “blue-bloods” of college football probably have that money laying around, but what about the smaller schools? A lot of schools will have to do some massive re-structuring of their athletic departments to not only pay out the money from past suits, but to also start paying student athletes in the future. There may even be situations where some departments or even sports may be completely eliminated from some programs.
