The Zimbabwean government is raising awareness on the dangers of using substances that have a potential of depleting the ozone layer.

The country ratified The Vienna Convention for the protection of Ozone layer and the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer in 1992. 

The Country Programme has been implemented since 1995 but owing to increased corruption and porous borders, Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) are still finding their way into Harare.

Economic experts in Zimbabwe has warned that the country's economy will continue to under-perform if government doesn't act decisively.

Top economists and business executives met this week at an event themed "The Big Debate" in which the issue of inflation was discussed.

Finance Minister, Mthuli Ncube says Zimbabwe's inflation is sitting at almost 132%.

‘Zimbabwe economy will continue to under-perform if government doesn't act decisively’

Malawi has sourced $60 million from the World Bank for rehabilitation of the 129.6 megawatts Kapichira power station which was completely damaged by Cyclone Ana this year. 

Authorities say the reconstruction of the dam structure at the power plant is due to begin next month.

This follows lengthy discussions between the World Bank and Ministry of Finance for such money so as to repair the main hydro power plant in two phases.  

The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) Chief Executive Officer, William Liabunya, says in a statement that the work is to start with Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for Phase 1.

The import of meat and meat products from Zimbabwe over a resurgence of foot-and-mouth disease has been banned by the Mozambican government over a resurgence of foot-and-mouth disease.

It has also banned the import of wild ungulates and fodder for cattle.
