Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has offered the city's Council Chamber for sittings of South Africa's National Assembly as well as the Grand Parade and City Hall for the State of the Nation Address following the fire gutted part of the Parliamentary precinct.

The fire gutted the third floor of the Old Assembly Building - causing the roof to collapse.

The ceiling of the National Assembly has also collapsed but the roof of that building remains intact.
