Since the state budget passed earlier this month, farm groups have been marking it as a good budget for farmers. Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Secretary Randy Romanski echoes that sentiment. He says the big wins were investments in farmer mental health, meat and dairy processing, conservation, and international exports. Romanski tells Mid-West Farm Report when farmers will see the money for those programs. He also lists off what else he wants to see the Legislature work on when it comes to funding farm programs. Even though education falls under a different state department, it’s a sector that DATCP is also keeping tabs on as agribusinesses continue to list labor as a No. 1 issue and point to ag education as the beginning of the pipeline for a strong workforce. Meanwhile, Romanski says there are efforts in place to boost ag labor in Wisconsin AND improve export infrastructure.
