Hemp Cooperative Looks To Protect Growers

As the agricultural landscape faces shifting federal priorities, the Grassland 2.0 project is pivoting toward private partnerships and innovative tools to demonstrate that grazing is a profitable practice.

Central to this effort is the Heifer Grazing Compass, a digital tool designed to help dairy producers calculate the benefits of transition. By keeping heifers on pasture rather than shipping them out of state to feedlots, farmers can significantly reduce overhead, explains Sarah Lloyd, value chain coordinator for the Grassland 2.0 project at UW-Madison.

Grazing The Way To Profitability

The Supreme Court is currently reviewing the legitimacy of widespread emergency tariffs imposed by the Trump administration in 2025. This decision will determine whether the International Emergency Economic Powers Act continues to grant the executive branch authority over global trade.

"This is extremely important for us in dairy because Mexico is number one -- number one for the cheese market -- and then Canada is actually our number two market," says Cassandra Kuball, vice president at Torrey Advisory Group. "After that, it's China. These are three big dogs that will all have major implications in the trade space."
