Incentives for swine farrowing crate heaters and for modulating dryer controls are among the new incentives Focus on Energy is offering farmers during 2020.

The Focus on Energy program is a statewide energy efficiency and renewable resource program funded by investor-owned energy utilities and participating municipal and cooperative energy cooperatives.

Saurabh Betawadkar, Focus on Energy’s lead energy advisor, said the incentive for installing energy-efficient swine farrowing crate heaters is $20-$40 per heater; the incentive for modulating dryer controls is $50 per dryer.

Changes for the year’s programs include:

– Lighting power density incentives will be modified to $0.04 kilowatt hours;

– Increased energy performance standards for ventilation fans and modified incentive structures have been increased;

– Incentives for irrigation variable frequency drives operating for more than 500 hours will be consolidated;

– The capacity limit of 1,500 bushels per hour will be removed for the grain dryer incentive; and

– Grain dryer tune-ups will become a standard offering.

Betawadkar said the multiple equipment bonus and electric water heater incentives will be discontinued.

Other new incentives will be added in April. Betawadkar said they will apply to horticultural lighting, dairy refrigeration tune-ups, and comprehensive lighting initiative and networked lighting controls.
