The Peninsula marathon was the brain child of the late Alex Jones, a member of Celtic Harriers Club. He was looking for a marathon at the time to prepare for the Comrades marathon and there was a shortage of marathons in Cape Town at the time. So, in 1964 the Peninsula marathon was established. This is the oldest standard marathon in South Africa. It will be the 57th running of this iconic marathon this year.
