So, a Scotsman walked into the SPCA.
Except this one had four legs, a matted coat and absolutely no interest in whisky.
Turns out he wasn’t a Scotsman afterall.
He was just Shortbread.
Shortbread is a male, medium sized terrier mix, around three years old, and he arrived wearing a coat that could have carried him through several Scottish winters.
He was found as a stray in a terrible state. His coat was filthy and matted, he was covered in fleas and he was frightened of almost everything.
In biscuit terms, he was not fresh from the tin.
He was more, “found at the back of Granny’s cupboard, slightly furry, and claimed by nobody.”
But Shortbread has since had the full glow up.
He has been bathed, treated and carefully groomed. Somewhere beneath all that hair, the SPCA found a lively, affectionate dog who is ready to join a family.
He needs regular exercise, a secure garden and a home with teenagers or adults.
He will also need regular grooming by a patient hand – it seems his beard is a matter of national pride.
Shortbread really is the best thing since, well… shortbread.
Go and meet him at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA on the corner of 1st Avenue and First Road in Grassy Park. Call 021 700 4140, email adoptions@spca-ct.co.za or apply online at capespca.co.za. Look for Shortbread's profile under Adoptable pets.
Every animal adopted from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is healthy, vaccinated, microchipped, temperament assessed and sterilised. You'll get great service from people who really care and they'll help you find a pet who fits your family perfectly.
