The film opens with a message: “It’s a miracle this film was made, it’s a miracle this film survived”. At a time when South Africa suffered racial discrimination and segregation (apartheid), Film director, Oliver Schmitz, faced immense challenges, working under stringent censorship and evading authorities to bring the Mapantsula film to fruition.
