Homelessness has quadrupled in South Africa over the last three decades, with
unemployment as the primary reason for homelessness in the country - This is
according to a new report by Stats SA. In 1996, the official count of homeless
individuals stood at just over 13,000, but by 2022, that number had more than
quadrupled, reaching almost 56,000.
