The historic Durban Declaration of Crime Free Construction Sites has been signed by
Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean Macpherson, Deputy Minister of Police
Cassel Mathale, Deputy Minister of Finance Ashor Sarupen, and Construction Industry
Development Board (CIDB) chair Khulile Nzo at the National Construction Summit on
Crime-Free Construction in Durban. The agreement is set to decisively stop the
criminal disruption of construction sites countrywide by the so-called construction
mafia.

The SA Navy has only one working warship partially patrolling South Africa’s territorial
waters. All the navy’s submarines are out of service, its five outdated patrol vessels are broken and none of the four diving teams is operational. Defence Minister Angie Motshekga revealed all of this during a parliamentary question- and-answer- session. Motshekga says this is not as a result of mismanagement but due to financial constraints faced by the SA Navy.
