In South Africa, adolescent girls and young women aged 15–24 years account for more than a third of all new HIV infections, while there were 2,103 births to mothers between the ages of 10 and 14 in South Africa, in 2024. This World Aids Day, much like last year, we continue to decry how young girls contnue to be disproportionately accepted by HIV, and with many of them also faced with the challenge being mothers while they are still children themselves.
