Yesterday, the City of Cape Town MMC for Human Settlements Malusi Booi launched a 6 Point Plan to help protect City housing projects from what he calls an increase in incidents of extortion, criminality and violence; unlawful occupation or forceful community disruption of housing units….also saying projects amounting to approximately R1 billion are currently at risk.

It was reported that in just one week, the city’s R500m Delft Symphony Way project, earmarked for about 3,300 beneficiaries, was attacked twice. Contractors were fired on and the construction site was petrol-bombed a few days later.
