In 2007, Wesley Autrey, a construction worker and Navy veteran from New York City, found himself at a subway train platform with his two young daughters. It was there that he witnessed a terrifying incident: a 20-year-old film student suddenly suffered a seizure and fell onto the subway tracks. Without hesitation, Autrey leapt into action, jumping onto the tracks to rescue the student.
Placing the student in-between the tracks for safety, Autrey held him down and covered him with his own body. As the subway train passed over them, both Autrey and the student miraculously survived.
Autrey's incredible act of bravery didn't go unnoticed. It quickly captured national attention, and he gained widespread recognition as the 'Subway Samaritan.' Time magazine even included him in their prestigious list of the top 100 most influential people in the world for 2007.
Meanwhile, reality TV host and businessman Donald Trump saw an opportunity to support Autrey and honor his heroic deed. He personally presented Autrey with a $10,000 check just two days after the incident.
