A sports radio host based in Washington, D.C. faced termination over his comments about a female TV reporter assigned to cover the Washington Commanders. The host, known as Don Geronimo (real name Michael Sorce), directed these remarks towards Sharla McBride from WUSA9.
Consequently, the Commanders barred iHeartMedia from their training camp facilities in Ashburn, Virginia. Geronimo made these comments alongside co-host Crash Young during a broadcast. Later in the same show, he spotted McBride again and identified her as the woman Young had previously mentioned.
Following a comprehensive review, the radio station decided to sever ties with Geronimo, a move that aligns with iHeartMedia's core values, according to Aaron Hyland, President of iHeartMedia's D.C. Region.
Sharla McBride expressed her dismay at the comments directed towards her on the radio show. She revealed feeling deeply insulted and embarrassed when she heard them.
Having worked as a professional journalist for 17 years, she had never experienced such a blatant act of disrespect while trying to carry out her duties. McBride characterized the words as sexist and misogynistic, emphasizing the importance of preventing any woman from having to endure such mistreatment in the workplace.
