Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has pushed back against claims that his recent comments about billionaire George Soros were anti-Semitic. Musk recently criticized Soros for funding ‘pet prosecutors’ that are not tough enough against violent criminals. When asked about his comments on CNBC, Musk defended himself stating, ‘This is freedom of speech,’ and went on to say that he considers himself a “pro-semite.” Musk refused to back down on his opinion about Soros, saying that Soros wants to ‘erode the very fabric of civilization.’

According to Musk, Soros is exploiting a weak point in the American justice system: prosecutorial discretion. Musk suggested that Soros has found an arbitrage opportunity with district attorney elections where relatively small amounts of money can have a big impact. Recently, Republicans have criticized Soros for his donations to left-wing district attorneys who represent 20% of Americans across the country. Musk also criticized Soros for his $1 million donation to a group that is closely linked to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who led the indictment against Donald Trump.

Musk added that Soros is intentionally dismantling the legal system by instructing his ‘pet prosecutors’ to go easy on violent criminals. This is why an individual who had already previously stabbed his roommate could brutally assault Dave Chapelle on stage with the same deadly weapon and receive only a misdemeanor. The assailant, Isaiah Lee, was sentenced to 270 days in county jail for attacking Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl in California. During a jailhouse interview, Lee claimed that he was ‘triggered’ by Chappelle’s anti-LGBTQ+ jokes and felt inspired by Will Smith's slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
