A post-secondary graduate from Île-à-la-Crosse is being recognized for blending education with community impact.
Hailey Burnouf recently completed the two year Design and Manufacturing Engineering Technology diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatoon. Her studies combined mechanical engineering theory with hands-on training in areas such as welding, machining, and metal fabrication.
Burnouf says one of her most meaningful projects involved supporting the development of a wild rice harvester. Her role focused on creating detailed fabrication drawings and 3D models that will allow builders to replicate wild rice harvesting boats.
She worked with Sask. PolyTechnic and the wild rice operations, allowing her to apply her education directly to work that benefits her home community.
