October -6-2026 Host: Danielle Dufour The Prince Albert Sexual Assault Centre, a non-profit community organization that provides free counselling and support for survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence, is standing in solidarity with the survivor of the Cornell University sexual assault case. The centre serves Prince Albert, Meadow Lake, La Ronge and surrounding areas. “When we saw it posted on social media, and we started to get people reaching out to us on a personal level to talk about the case, we realized that this went far beyond Cornell University,” said Amanda Lofstrom, a sexual assault counsellor with the Prince Albert Sexual Assault Centre. “This really struck a chord with us here in the north.” In September, a former Cornell University student, who used the pseudonym “Jane Doe”, filed a civil lawsuit against seven fraternity members, alleging they drugged and sexually assaulted her at a fraternity house in October 2024. When asked if he would describe the houselessness issue in the province as a crisis, Honorable Terry Jenson, the Minister of Social Services said, “I would describe it as an extremely complex situation, one that isn’t exclusive to just Saskatchewan. This is something happening right across our country.” He identified affordability challenges resulting from inflation, along with the ongoing drug crisis, as contributing factors to homelessness in the province. September 24, 2026 Host: Danielle Dufour Since 1971 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Regina and Area (BBBSRA), a non-profit organization in Regina, Weyburn and Moose Jaw, has been matching individuals up with young people to help mentor and empower youth to develop social-emotional competence, mental well-being and educational engagement. BBBSRA is one of the agencies in Saskatchewan that serves over 15 communities. There are 86 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies nationwide that match over 32,000 children with mentors. “I would say the need for mentors in our mentoring program in Regina and area is significant,” said Amy Mohr, Director of Development and Communications BBBSRA. “We have 70 kids waiting on our wait list right now. Between 70 to 80 per cent are Indigenous kids.” Mohr said they are specifically in need of male mentors to be matched with children on the wait list.
