MBC News Host: Danielle Dufour, Freelancer George Gordon Development (GGDL) hosted their fourth annual partnership forum for the first time in Regina on Thursday. “It’s been growing every year to the capacity where we have the entire Hotel Saskatchewan booked right now,” said Brad Spence the Director of Training and Employment for GGDL. “We have 30 CEO’s, business leaders from across Western Canada … crown corporations, presidents of mines, presidents of potash companies.” “We’re here to learn from each other and renew our partnerships and kind of work our supply chain under the GGDL umbrella,” said Spence. MBC News Host: Danielle Dufour The YWCA in Regina launched a new fully digital violence prevention and bystander education program on Mar. 3rd. Upstander Online represents a significant step forward in addressing Saskatchewan’s gender-based violence crisis. The program equips workplaces, nonprofits, Indigenous-serving organizations, and community Groups with practical tools to recognize red flags, intervene safely, and strengthen accountability. Saskatchewan continues to report the highest provincial rates of gender-based violence;  the highest rate of intimate partner; and has the second-highest rate of sexual violence among Canadian provinces. The Prince Albert Grand Council is hosting a symposium this month to discuss a feasibility study on policing in PAGC communities. The symposium will bring leaders and representatives from PAGC communities to go through the report and further determine whether an Indigenous-led police service can work for PAGC. It will take place on March 26 at the Ches Leach Lounge in Prince Albert. MBC's Joel Willick spoke with David Sanderson of the PAGC about the upcoming event.

March 10, 2026 Metis Nation President Glen McCallum did his opening remarks for the first day of the gathering. Saskatchewan Co-operative Fisheries Ltd. is having there general meeting today March 10th and on March 11 will focus on the AGM. This event is taking place in Prince Albert at the Coronet Hotel. 

Several First Nation chiefs and leaders representing Treaty 6 have embarked on a trip to London for a meeting with King Charles III. The plan is to invite the King to the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6 this summer. Among the delegation was Chief Edwin Ananas of Beardy's and Okemasis Cree Nation. He spoke with MBC News about the trip.

Survivors of the Ile a la Crosse boarding school and the federal government recently announced the details of a proposed settlement. That settlement will be the subject of a court hearing in Saskatoon at the end of the month. MBC's Joel Willick spoke with Jamie Shilton, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs about the upcoming hearing.

On February 27th Minister Mandy Gull-Masty gave MBC News an update on the files she is working on.  Those include Jordans Principle and Child and Family Services.

The University of Saskatchewan will be launching a new Michif language certificate program this fall. The university is expanding its Certificate in Indigenous Languages program to include a Michif language stream. The certificate program, which already includes a Cree stream, aims to help educators develop proficiency in speaking and teaching Indigenous languages. Shirley Cardinal, a support person for the program, spoke with MBC's Joel Willick about the new language addition.

The Government of Saskatchewan recent launched a new campaign to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking in the province.   MBC's Joel Willick spoke with Alana Ross, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women about the campaign, common myths around human trafficking, and what the public can do if they suspect human trafficking.

MBC News Host: Danielle Dufour February is Heart Month. Cardiovascular diseases affects everyone and not only aging communities. The Heart and Stroke Foundation states that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women today and is responsible for approximately one in three deaths among women each year.  MBC News talked with  Bonny Graham, an Registered Nurse and Program Manager of Community Health and Medical Clinic at Maskwacis Health Services in Alberta about cardiovascular disease and if there are steps we can take for prevention.

MBC News Host: Danielle Dufour The Yorkton area was without a friendship centre since 2018, until now. The Yorkton Indigenous Friendship Centre was incorporated two years ago and was accepted into the national association. As there is no physical building for the centre, they rent two offices in Yorkton and use community space all over town to run their programs. MBC talked with  Executive Director Mary Culbertson about the services they provide.

MBC News Host: Danielle Dufour  The Newo Yotina Friendship Centre in Regina  re-openned last June after a fire caused some water, smoke, and soot damage to the building. The centre runs 23 different programs to serve urban Indigenous people that are living in Regina. Some of those services include housing assistance, a warm-up shelter, cultural and language programs, and Elder support. MBC News caught up with   Executive Director Teresa Innis and discuss the need for services being provided at the Newo Yotina Friendship Centre.

By Danielle Dufour Love is in the air at the Prince Albert Indian Metis Friendship Centre as Friday, February 13th they hosted a Valentine's family dance in the gym. Executive director Kevin Ray, who was newly appointed to this role back in September, talked about a big event coming up this month. The Friendship Centre will be hosting the Sharing Our Voices to Heal community gathering from February 23-25. One of the guest presenters is Willis Janvier of Dene Yati Media. This gathering will focus on empowering women and 2-spirit individuals, strengthening men and 2-spirit individuals, and inspiring youth and Elders.

MBC Freelance Correspondent Danielle Dufour talks with Dr. Sardarli about Indigenization of math and science. Dr. Arzu Sardarli, a professor of physics and mathematics, Indigenous knowledge, and science at the First Nations University, is heading up a research project to develop educational resources for Cree and Metis languages. There were discussions at the First Nations University about the Indigenization of mathematics and science, as they received some complaints that what was being taught was colonized. “All nations contributed to mathematics,” said Dr. Sardarli. “Mathematics is not colonized; the way of teaching mathematics and maybe the way of teaching science is colonized.” This project will show how one can teach mathematics in other ways instead of just using examples developed by European nations.  To read the full article visit: MBC Radio

The Opposition NDP is calling on the provincial government to provide more police officers and supports to the City of Prince Albert. According to data from the Prince Albert Police Service, violent crimes in the city increased by 10 percent over the past year. There was also a rise in the number of reported thefts, break-ins, and arsons. MBC's Joel Willick spoke with Hugh Gordon, the NDP's Associate Shadow Minister of Public Safety on the issue.
