A Cree Bilingual school in Saskatoon officially has a new name.
From now on, the St. Frances Cree School will be known as awâsisak kânîmîhtocik St Francis School.
awâsisak kânîmîhtocik means “children who dance” in the Cree language.
The language program has been in operation in the city since 2007, but never had a dedicated home.
The new school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2025.
MBC News spoke with superintendent Kelley Cardinal about the new name for the school.
