Queenslanders are bracing for what could be the worst storm in more than 70 years. 

Tropical Cyclone Alfred is moving onto the east coast, with its full force expected to hit tomorrow and Saturday. 

Evacuations are under way in the Gold Coast over fears of swells, 155 kilometre an hour winds, and flooding.

B105 Brisbane host Abby Coleman joined the Afternoons team to explain that people are bracing themselves for floods, heavy wind and power outages.

Former police officer and founder of Blue Hope, Allister Rose, joined Matt and Tyler to chat about his mission to ride 1,100 km from Wellington to Cape Reinga.

The Blue Hope Foundation aims to help New Zealand police workers and their families affected by trauma and PTSD. 

Rose said, "we want to say, look, there's a problem, but there's also a solution."
