How do you pass down your values without deciding who your children have to become? Congressman Jonathan Jackson talks with Judge Greg Mathis, Linda Mathis, and Greg Mathis Jr. about growing up with Reverend Jesse Jackson, finding his own direction, and why he never felt afraid to come home.

Jonathan remembers starting out in speech therapy and tells the story of the push from Judge that helped him decide to run for Congress. Linda brings her experience running childcare centers to a conversation about what working parents can afford, while the family discusses civil rights, public service, and continuing the work of the generation before them.

There are also the stories only longtime friends can tell: campaigning before the cameras, Grandma Gertrude choosing the Judge Mathis show over a real phone call with Judge, and a borrowed Bentley that took some effort to get back.

Judge Mathis is used to giving the verdict. At home, everybody gets a say.

On Mathis Family Talks, Judge Greg Mathis and Linda Mathis are joined by their adult children, spouses, and guests for the honest, funny, and sometimes heated conversations families usually save for the group chat, the kitchen table, or the ride home.

Rooted in Detroit and shaped by life in the public eye, the Mathises get into the issues beneath modern Black family life: marriage, parenting, money, mental health, identity, code-switching, success, privacy, and the complicated line between helping the people you love and trying to control them. Every generation brings a different truth, and nobody is above being challenged—not even the Judge.

This is not a perfect family performing perfection. It is a loving, accomplished, opinionated family telling real stories, owning what they got wrong, laughing through the tension, and turning disagreement into something listeners can use in their own lives.

Come for the strong opinions. Stay for the heart and the humor.
