Does being a bridesmaid mean agreeing to a $1,000 dress and a destination bachelorette weekend? Celebrity wedding planner Diann Valentine joins Linda Mathis, Greg Jr., Camara and Amir for a conversation about wedding expectations, friendship and who should pay.

The family doesn’t land on the same answer. Diann draws a distinction between traveling to celebrate a friend and paying the extra costs of being in the wedding party. They also debate how much control parents should have when they’re funding the celebration.

Linda and Camara revisit the heat, the cake and the budget behind Camara’s wedding. Diann shares stories from To Rome for Love, explains what it felt like to start again in the beauty business around 50, and reflects on the costs her daughter experienced while she built her career as a single mother. She also explains why she’s rethinking what she wants to leave her grandchildren.

Judge Mathis is used to giving the verdict. At home, everybody gets a say.

On Mathis Family Talks, Judge Greg Mathis and Linda Mathis are joined by their adult children, spouses, and guests for the honest, funny, and sometimes heated conversations families usually save for the group chat, the kitchen table, or the ride home.

Rooted in Detroit and shaped by life in the public eye, the Mathises get into the issues beneath modern Black family life: marriage, parenting, money, mental health, identity, code-switching, success, privacy, and the complicated line between helping the people you love and trying to control them. Every generation brings a different truth, and nobody is above being challenged—not even the Judge.

This is not a perfect family performing perfection. It is a loving, accomplished, opinionated family telling real stories, owning what they got wrong, laughing through the tension, and turning disagreement into something listeners can use in their own lives.

Come for the strong opinions. Stay for the heart and the humor.
