James Patrick: 6-3 Loss at Spokane TuesHighly touted NHL draft prospect Berkley Catton had a hat trick on a five point night, to lead the Spokane Chiefs past the visiting Victoria Royals 6-3 Tuesday night.
After opening the scoring, the Royals twice clawed back to tie the game at 2-2 and 3-3, but the Chiefs pulled away by scoring the final three goals.
Victoria lost forward Reggie Newman after taking a check to the head from Cameron Parr, who was only assessed a two minute minor.
The Royals are already a depleted group, scratching 7 skaters, 5 to injury, 1 illness and 1 to suspension. They've had to call up three affiliates to help dress a full line up, including defenseman Keaton Verhoeff who was recognized pre-game by the Chiefs for his involvement with the Youth Olympic Games in Southern Korea along with head coach Ryan Smith and Mathis Preston.
Casper Haugen-Evensen starred in the game with two goals and an assist, while Justin Kipkie also earned three points, all assists. Cole Reschny added his 21st to continue his hot play after being named the WHL's Rookie of the Week.
Spokane's top line of Catton, Connor Roulette (2a), and Shea Van Olm (2a) combined for 9 points.
