The Victoria Royals scored twice in the third period to come from behind a secure a point in a 4-3 shoot out defeat on the road against the CHL Top 10 Portland Winterhawks Wednesday night.
The Royals were a post away from completing the comeback in the skills competition, before the Winterhawks rallied to snag the extra point.
Victoria was down 2-1 after 20 minutes, and 3-1 after 40 before a couple quick strikes early in the third followed by several big saves from Braden Holt to keep them even.
Royals forward Dawson Pasternak faced his former club for the first time since being traded, and was named 3rd star with a goal and an assist.
His linemate Cole Reschny also scored and added a helper, while Haugen-Evensen added a single.
Penalty Killing also played a large role for Victoria, who were facing the 2nd most efficient power play in the league. In critical moments of the game they shut down Portland, including late in the second preventing a 3 goal lead, and in overtime.
