So just go to dream host or google it, find it, check it out, and it's a great way to improve your low time. Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Sue and I'm Neil Patel, and today we're going to talk about when you should build links to a piece of content. So in the last episode we talked about when you should upgrade a piece of content, but building links can be a little trickier. And so you know, obviously the two most important things when it comes to Google are content and links. Right, So when do you build links to a piece of content? So for me personally, what I look for. A simple way of looking at it is if a piece of content is if I pull up Google Search Console and it's ranking for a keyword, I want it to be ranking for and let's say it's ranking anywhere from number five to twenty or so, I know it's when within striking distance of getting into a top three position. So for me, that's that's an indicator, and I don't need to pay for another tool to do that. I can just use Google Search Console to get started. There'll be a guideline for me, and then if I want to get even deeper, I can use the tool like h refs to pull even more metrics. But simple way of doing it is Google Search Console. I build links to a piece of content when I look at the people who are in the top ten and they barely have any backlinks. If you already have a site that has a ton of authority, the tactic that Eric mentioned with the striking distance works extremely well. I do that most of the time myself, but for a lot of you guys, you guys probably don't have the authority, So I would build links based on the top ten. So look at the top ten results for any cure that you want to rank for, look at how many backlinks they have, and if they have a small amount like ten twenty referring domains, don't look at the total back link count, but look at how many unique referring domains. If it's something small like that. If you build a back link or a handful of back links and they're rich in anchor takes, you'll notice that your rankings will start shooting up. It will take a bit of time, but I base it off of that. If you notice that everyone has hundreds of back links to that exact page and the specifically there are hundreds of unique referring domains. Unless you have more time and effort to put into link building, that's when you probably should avoid it. So I would either do based on a striking distance as Eric mentioned, or b based on if it's not that competitive, purely based on link count for all the other people that rank for that term. Yeah, and HRUs actually has a tool. I think they can show you the keyword difficulty to show you how many backlinks you need to build. So that's additional piece of advice there if you want to see how difficult a keyword is, using Neil's tactic here, you can easily see when you search for a keyword. They'll show you to top ten and how many root domains are pointing to each one, and also show you on a scale one then one hundred how difficult that keyword is. And they'll say like, oh, you need like you know, ten links or these keywords, you know, not that difficult. Maybe you need maybe one link to get into the top ten. Right, So that way, at least you have an indicator of if you should pursue it or not. Yep, But it's a simple, straightforward answer. Those are the main two things you can look at. The third thing is if you have a bigger company, you don't have the authority, but you have a lot of budget. You're doing paid ads the moment you know certain keywords are getting you amazing ROI from paid search and you're spinning on a leg. That would be another case where it's worth building a link to a page that is purely focused on that keyword or topic. Cool.
