Welcome to Marketing School, the only podcast that provides daily top level marketing tips and strategies from entrepreneurs that practice what they preach and live what they teach. Let's start leveling up your marketing knowledge with your instructors, Neil Patel and Eric Sue. All Right, guys, before we start, we got a special message from our sponsor. If you want to rank higher on Google, you gotta look at your page speed time. The faster website loads, the better off you are with Google's Core Vital update. That makes it super super important to optimize your site for low time. And one easy way to do it is use the host that Eric and I use, dream Hosts. So just go to dream host or Google it, find it, check it out, and it's a great way to improve your loaw time. All right, so today we're going to talk about what Google's number one ranking factor for in twenty twenty. What's the number one ranking factor? So should we try to say it at the same time? Let's try this, Sure we may we may have the different answer. We might have different answers one, two, three, core web vis Okay, we're saying the same thing kind of, but you go first. All right, So Google, you know a lot of people look at Google as like, oh, you need more back links, you need more words on a page, or keywor density. At the end of the day, you're not searching Google and being like, oh my god, I got to click on the number one result. It has a million back wingks. The number two result has two hundred thousand. Like, as a user, you don't really care which site has more back links, so which site has more keyre density? You care about which site has the best user experience for you? Does it give you what you want, the quickest way, the cheapest price, whatever. Maybe. So I believe the number one metric is going to be user experience. And what I mean by user experience, I'm talking about things like click the rate on the title tag, bouncebacks, people leaving going and clicking on the next result instead of yours. All of that, to me, encompasses users experience, whether it's directly or indirectly, because it shows Google what a human wants, which is more important than what quote unquote a bot wants or a spider wants. Yeah, I mean, look, at the end of the day, there's a lot of stuff that's getting out of hand, right. You have people that are overloading their website with a ton of JavaScript, and you have you know, a bunch of pop ups everywhere, and it slows down the experience and it makes things, you know, poo poo. And so when I'm talking about core web vitals, there's actually a good piece written by So it's on Search Engine Land on how to audit core web vityles. And so there's a couple of things that I want to call out on my side. So you know three main things here, Largest content full paint right, So that measures loading performance, how long it takes for the largest item in the viewport to load. That's LCP, so you want to have that within two point five seconds of a page coming up, right, So that's one thing. And then the other thing is first input delay, so that's FI. So that measures interactivity how long it takes for a website to respond when a user clicks on something. And you want this to kind of be between one hundred to three hundred milliseconds. And this all comes from Google. By the way, I'm not making this stuff up. And the third one would be a cumulative layout shift so that CLS, which measures the visual stability. So you don't want your page jumping around if people are kind of you know, scrolling through your content. Right, So this all ties in with the overarching thing is usability or kind of user experience at the end of the day. Right, So Neil, do you want to add any color to this. Just think about if you were on a web page, what would you like to see? What would you not like to see. I know there's a lot of technical terms, but it really is that simple. Cool, So I'll leave it with this. I mean, one practical thing you can do if you're worried about this, and I think everyone should be somewhat worried about this or thinking about it, is Look, at the end of the day, usability. When we think about a business, it all comes down to retention. How well are you doing with serving the customer? Right, You're doing the same thing with your website too, how well are you serving the experience? And so one thing you can do is you can use the Screaming Frog website crawler. There's a paid version of that that you'd have to get, and then there's a page Speed Insights apike that you can pull and then basically, obviously you just run it through your website and then leverage today the apike as well, just to see what the heck is going on. Screaming Frog is a great product. You and I both recommend it, and we're not affiliated. So that is it for today.
