Welcome to Marketing School, the only podcast that provides daily top level marketing tips and strategies from entrepreneurs that practice what they preach and live what they teach. Let's start leveling up your marketing knowledge with your instructors, Neil Patel and Eric Sue. All right, guys, before we start, we got a special message from our sponsor. If you want to rank higher on Google, you got to look at your page speed time. The faster website loads, the better off you are with Google's Core Vital update. That makes it super super important to optimize your site for low time. And one easy way to do it is use the host that Eric and I use, dream Hosts, So just go to dream host or google it, find it, check it out, and it's a great way to improve your low time. Today we are going to talk about what kind of blog you should create in twenty twenty one. So if you haven't already created a blog, you know that's fine. It's too late to the game. And you're like, all right, do I just go create a text based blog, an audio based blog, a video based blog. And people are wondering what type of content should they be posting? Should it be long? Form content. Should it be video based content, should be short articles, memes? We all know that SEO. A lot of times people just write long form content because that's what they think Google loves. So, if you were starting a blog today, Eric, what kind of blog would you create? Right? Because it's like it's hard to do everything, So what type of content would you create or format? More? So, let me start off with I wouldn't create a blog because it's too competitive. It's the red ocean right now. I just think it's tougher and tougher, right, Like, it's you want to go where organic reach is strong and it's not as competitive. So I think if I were thinking about written content from a B to B perspective, let's just focus on what I do right now. So it's you know, B to B marketing for SaaS as an example, right, So, I know my people are hanging out probably on LinkedIn or on Twitter too. LinkedIn and Twitter. I know if I write a really good tweet, I've seen some people by the way too. They'll put up a tweet and they'll get thirty thousand followers, but only that they'll appear on CNBC. They'll get all these other opportunities, right, So I think getting the ability to have people amplify and putting your work out there that you see a lot of people doing that now and they're very quickly getting up to like one hundred thousand Twitter followers or so that's one way I would do it. The other way is LinkedIn because the organic reach is strong, and then once you have a couple of people help promote it in the very beginning, you can kind of grow that way. Right. So this is not exactly blogging. I know Neil's gonna have different answers here, but I'm just trying to think how can I quickly get reach? And LinkedIn and Twitter are good spots for that from a B to B perspective, because I know that's where my audience is hanging out. And if it was me, I would actually create a video blog. I think video blogs can do really well and then you can repurpose that content on social media because videos tend to do better than tech space content from what we're seeing on social media, So why not create a video blog. Google's trying to make it better and better to rank videos as well. When I look at my search cons I'm getting quite a bit of video traffic. So if I were you spend your time creating videos, I think that's the new way to generate a ton of traffic, and it not being as competitive text based content right now, super competitive with tools like conversion dot ai or services like conversion dot ai coming out and other you know, quote unquote AI driven content creation services coming out there, I think you're going to see even a bigger flood of content text based content more so. So for our virtual event yesterday, we actually had Dave, the CEO of Conversion dot Ai speak and so Neil and I we were kind of skeptical of these tools because we've tried them in the past, right, but just to hear some of the case studies and to see it in action where someone you know, was an agency owner and hadn't created content for I don't know, six or seven years, and now he's created three hundred thousand dollars in new annual recurring revenue from using a service like conversion dot ai, which I think does maybe sixty to seventy percent, maybe eighty percent of the work and then the rest you kind of fill in the gaps. So to me, it's helping you buy back your time, right, And so what I would say kind of the point is if you're starting with pillar content. Let's say Neil and I are doing this podcast right now, it's being recorded a video. We would throw this onto YouTube and maybe what we would do is maybe take you know, have conversion on AI kind of help fill the gaps, and then maybe have hire a writer to kind of take our content and then you know, produce longer form content from there. Right, So you start with the pillar piece first, it's automatically audio, and then you can also convert it to written as well, so you're kind of getting the best of all three of these worlds. And that way you're not just going to be holding to one channel. Because I can tell you when I first took over the Single Green blog, we're only getting like two or three thousand visits a month, and it took probably four years to get up to one hundred thousand, and then from there it kind of wrapped up more. Now we're at about three hundred and fifty thousand or so, which is decent. But you know, when I do that battle again, I don't know. So Neil, go for it. Look whatever way or whatever approach you decide to take the biggest thing to keep in mind is there's a lot of different, varying opinions out there. But the one thing that Eric and I are one hundred and ten percent sure on is you need to create content. Whether you post it on social media or your own block, it doesn't matter. Crediting content is how you attract eyeballs. Definitely is more competitive than it used to be. It's harder to leverage these social networks compared to before. Sally, you're gonna have to spend some money boosting and promoting, but nonetheless you need to be creating content, all right. So that is it for today. Marketingschool dot io slash Live. That's l I v E. We have a virtual event. Like I just talked about, we have a live event as well. Go check it out and we'll catch you later.
