I'm Eric Sue and I'm Neil pateal and today we're going to talk about how to throw your own own mastermind. So, Eric, you recently threw a mastermind. Funny enough, you asked me to attend and I said, no, why did you throw the mastermind? Yeah? So, I've been in this group called Entrepreneurs Organization for about five years and every year we have a retreat, which I kind of see as a mastermind. It's the same, you know, ten people, people calm people go. But there's a lot of value because sometimes we'll fly in subject matter experts and we get to go to amazing places where you know, you get just you have amazing experiences while having amazing learnings at the same time. So we did one in Cabo in April with my EO group and I'm like, man, Cobo is like the perfect spot to do these things. So I selected a group of people you included, and then we got them together and you know, as of last week we did it. It was amazing, went from Thursday to Sunday. So why do people need a ten masterminds or throw them? Right? Because, like I'm a big believer and this is just me. I personally think, yes, they provide value. But if you can surround yourself with people who are like minded on a daily basis, you can continue to get that feedback without having to attend to mastermind. Yeah, that's a good question. So I think I think that's really important to surround yourself with the right people constantly. Like you and I we talk a lot, right, Yes, Friday, we had like a thirty minute conversation out of nowhere. But I think having that dedicated time is really important. It's hard to get that because when I'm able to curate it, I was basically the moderator facilitator for it. I basically mandated like a no technology thing, and then we were very focused on like a very specific agenda like half day learning, half day like having having fun. And that was I got to learn tactics that were just so like I wouldn't have learned anywhere else, but it was just in such an environment where of like we stopped, dropped everything and like we're open minded. So you had how many people attend your Mastermind? There were nine. Out of those nine people, how many of them were friends before the Mastermind? Every one of them were at least acquaintances. So in friends, I would say, you know, I would say fifty to sixty percent of them. Okay, so at least acquaintances. Did you talk to these people on a regular basis before the Mastermind? Were some of them? Most of them? No? Okay. So there's one key takeaway that Eric's telling you guys right now, in which when you're doing a Mastermind it's not just having smart people, it's also having like minded people that you're not talking to on a regular basis, because then you can learn something new. For example, if Eric and I did a mastermind with each other and we were just brainstorming for a day, we talked so often pretty much, we wouldn't get much value from it exactly. So that's an important part. The second is you ended up having in this remote location, you had all these rules and you ended up learning quite a few different things. Now did you take anything from there and implement yet or no? Yeah? Immediately cool? And did you get results from it? Well, it was basically immediate results because I knew what to do. It's a very sensitive thing. I wish I could share it. I'm going to share it with you after. But it's huge, like company changing. Cool sounds good to me. Yeah, see, this's the benefit of us talking all the time. But so the thing with that is, and the reason I bring up this point, I know so many people that attend masterminds and they all said they learned amazing things, but just did something that most people don't do. He took action on the data he learned. I don't care if you're going to conferences masterminds. If you don't take action, you're not going to learn anything. Now, when most people throw masterminds, they do this to make money. Eric was your objective to make money. Didn't make any money. Everybody paid costs? Yep. Where'd you charge everyone? Everybody all in? I think total costs for about three girls. Technically you didn't charge people. Everyone just paid that cost three grand. So to clarify, what Eric did was he was transparent and he said, here's all the costs. You guys can look at all the bills in the receipts each person could pay. Or he was just like, I could just pay share all the receipts and everyone can just pay me back, which is what I did. And that's what everyone chose because it was much easier than for them than paying each and every single bill. And you want to be careful with that. Don't do that unless you know the people that are coming to a mastermind and you know they can pay you back. And Eric's main purpose was a lot of people throw masterminds to make money. He did it purely from learning. Yep. If you can't get more value from the learning, then the money that you're going to charge you shouldn't be doing a Mastermind one hundred percent. I think you know the way I look at it too, The learnings will lead to much more revenues in the long term. And you know, actually there were like two opportunities that popped up. But the thing is this, you don't want to throw these things to solicit business because people can smell that from a mile away. Once you do that, the whole tone changes. You want to make this about friendships going deeper. I mean some people in the Mastermind to even start like like a partnership that I think will be valuable for years to come. So look, you know, when I throw them, it's not to make a profit or anything like that. It was to see how it would go the first time. And it went. It was amazing. I threw a survey afterwards, and so far everyone that filled it out it was like the average right now in the surveys nine point five. So for me, I'm going to do it again. So a few other questions. One, how did you get all these people to attend? Yeah, so basically I just sent an email and you know what, there's where did you just send an email out to your whole email list or what did you do there? So I decided I was like, okay, people all have to be around the same caliber or so let's say revenue wise, or they might have to have x amount of employees or over a certain amount, or same skill set or knowledge skill set yeah, or a different skill set that is complementary that you can learn from. Yeah. And we actually had a pretty good variety of different skill sets, like when guy was really good at YouTube and et cetera, and when guy's good at M and A or buying businesses online. I should say, so, sorry, what was your question again? So how do you what email? Did you sell those people? Yeah? So I said a really simple email. What I basically said was, hey, look we're throwing a mastermind of like minded people. There's no agenda, just connecting great people. It's going to be in Cabo on this date. Are you up for it? And it was really simple, right, And then basically the response rate was one hundred percent and the people I targeted all ended up attending except one. I'm gonna call him out. His name is Brandon Stapper, and I'm not going to say why because the reason is hilarious, but I'll tell you after, So that means it was silly and he should have attended ridiculous reason. All right, and then the last question I have for you is you had nine attendees who was a nine or ten? Nine? Right? Nine at ten? Including you? I'm assuming no the Brandon was the one that dropped out. Brandon, I'm gonna send us to you, Brandon. Okay, So yeah, nine attendees? How many people would you limit your mastermind too? If you one was to throw a good question? So the first time I threw this, I was like, Okay, you know, there's other masterminds that I'm part of. They have like, you know, hundreds of people or so, like, let's see if we can get there, right. But now after doing it, I realized that keeping it small probably maxing it at at twelve people. Max twelve were if we're to stretch it, maybe we'll be fifteen. But we're going to cap it at twelve, and we already got other people coming in. So the next one we're gonna do is I'm going off on a tangent now, but we're probably gonna do it in Turkey or like Columbia or Saint Martin. How do you pronounce it Saint Martin's Yeah somethinguck that don't I don't like tropical places. I don't know. Yeah, well you didn't go to this first one anyway. Yeah, I'm like, I hate mosquitos. Oh yeah, I got bit by a lot of mosquitos. But anyway, that's a separate note. Cool, that was it. That's it. I mean, there's more we can talk about this, but you know, we are at the limit for this podcast.
